Check to see that you can afford it

When looking to buy a car, don’t just look at what you can afford, look at what you can afford to both buy and run. On top of the purchase price, you’ll also have to pay for licensing and registration, comprehensive insurance and monthly running costs.

If you are not paying cash, look at the finance options available to you. If you qualify for a company fleet discount, point this out and obtain a company buying order for your purchase.

Test drive it

Don’t make any big decisions until you’ve slipped into the driver’s seat and experienced the car for yourself. Experience the driving position, the visibility, the overall feel of the car in town and on the open road.

And while at the Dealership, take a good look around. This will give you a good indication of what to expect later in terms of back-up service, parts availability, and staff attitude.

If the test drive leaves you battling to let go of the steering wheel, it’s time to make it truly yours. Consider adding any extra accessories or optional extras that might suit you.
