2010 - the year of Das Auto

In this issue we reveal three important and very exciting launches for the Volkswagen brand. The first
is the all new Amarok, Volkswagen Group South Africa’s first one-tonne pickup. Amarok, meaning
“wolf” in the Inuit language is a robust, luxurious and proficient pickup, that completes the Volkswagen
range of vehicles.

We unveil the New Touareg, launched to the South African market in October this year, proving that the sky
is the limit for Volkswagen. Quipped as the ‘über’ SUV, you’ll see on page 12 why this is the most innovative
Volkswagen yet, packed full of futuristic technology.

Finally, we introduce BlueMotion – a suite of new technologies designed to lower your engine’s fuel
consumption and carbon emissions. With 2010 having been the International Year of Biodiversity, this
launch could not have happened at a better time. Go to page 6 and read why you should choose BlueMotion
Technology in your next Volkswagen. And always remember to Think Blue!

Buck Rodgers, a former Major League baseball coach, once said “There are countless ways of attaining

In this issue we also take you ‘behind the scenes’ to the people behind the ‘People’s Car’. Volkswagen
Group South Africa is a dynamic, high performance work environment and on page 26 we introduce you to
some of our shining stars.

In keeping with a star-studded, celebrity filled year, we get up close and personal with The Parlotones on
page 34, the latest addition to the Volkswagen family. Included in this issue is also a signed poster of the
group, who have outsold international bands like Cold Play and Snow Patrol in South Africa. Proving yet
again that local is lekker!

We are also very proud to announce that this year Volkswagen South Africa has been awarded a
Level 4 BBBEE Contributor score. Read about this, and many other social initiatives that form part of
our brand identity on page 48.

Volkswagen Magazine has just returned from Sardinia, Italy, where the Volkswagen product line up for 2011
was unveiled. We won’t give any secrets away just yet, but hold your breath for an inspiring and uplifting
2011, where innovation and technology are the key areas of focus.
